  3. 24th Free Rescue School

The 24th Free Rescue School for self-protection and emergency response, with a duration of eight (8) weeks, is organized again this year by the Crisis Management Group (CMT), for all citizens. Schools start in three (3) cities at the same time, in Thessaloniki, Thiva, and Athens, on Monday, October 14, 2024.

A condition for attending the school is your registration as a simple member of the CMT.

Theoretical classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday, between 18:00 – 22:00 in the rooms that have been reserved in specific cities, or in special cases via the Internet. Furthermore, on some weekends, according to the program, practice will take place for all participants.

The themes of the rescue school include a) special First Aid courses, b) ways of self-protection in cases of emergencies, such as earthquakes and floods, c) safe lifesaving i.e. safety and dealing with dangers at sea and in water, d) orientation principles, e) mountain rescue, f) wireless communications, and g) humanitarian missions.

During the training, classes would be given by the Fire Service (on forest protection and forest firefighting), the Civil Protection, the Seismology Department of the University of Athens, a specialised psychologist, etc.

Those who wish to become volunteer rescuers and then probationary members in the Crisis Management Team, can continue their theoretical and practical training after the free schools, choosing the departments (rescue sectors) they prefer. Each department of CMT is set up and organized to serve the needs of a search and rescue operation in any conditions, in the mountain, in the water, in natural disasters, when first aid is needed, etc., while the teaching material and subject matters are based on the specifications and guidelines set by international bodies.

The courses are given by experienced trainers of the Crisis Management Team, private trainers and government bodies and are aimed at all citizens and especially those who want to voluntarily support operations in emergency situations, but also those who wish to be active by offering social work with us. Especially the courses related to First Aid offer valuable knowledge to those who attend them, so that they can actively help, at any time, their fellow man who is in need or whose life is in danger.

In the Crisis Management Team (CMT) schools, anyone over the age of 18 can participate, regardless of gender, education and physical condition.
